Friends, planes and such

A friend of mine recently moved back to Chicago. She and I met when she interned in my department the summer before last (she was enrolled in the same grad school program I went to) and came back to work full-time a year ago.

When you sit across from someone every day and hang out frequently on the weekends, it's weird after they leave. I honestly thought I wouldn't feel sad about her leaving because I have had what I call "remote" friends since I was 18, but this time it was different and I wasn't sure why.

Then I realized I'd never been "left" before. I was always the one doing the leaving. I left my high school friends for college, my college friends for work, my work friends for grad school, and my grad school/Chicago friends for work again. So this is unfamiliar territory for me. Thank goodness for AIM, right?

In other news, I was at a park yesterday and think I found Oceanic flight 815! (Lost fans know what I'm talking about.)

Recent pet peeve: Standing in line at the store when another line opens and the people BEHIND you run over. So rude.

Recent purhases: Sephora eyeshadow, Nine West flats, Eddie Bauer down jacket, a new Caboodle (yes, you read it correctly) and travel bag.

Books I'm reading: (Because I'm too scared to see the movie) No Country for Old Men and Darkly Dreaming Dexter (before CBS begins airing episodes on February 17).

By the way: If you plan to see Cloverfield, bring a barf bag!

Thank you, Subway: For offering personal pizzas.
