I hate pilates. HATE it. Hate the stretching, hate the dizziness, hate the instructor with the European accent who (shock) just happens to have a lower back tattoo.
I don't know why it's taken me so long to realize this, especially since I once bought a pilates DVD and used it only one time...and bought a pilates mat and eventually returned it...and signed up for a 10-week class, ended up going only twice and vowed never to take pilates again.
So how did I end up in a pilates class tonight? I joined a local gym and was planning to go to a kickboxing class (much more my style because I know a myriad of people I'd like to punch), but I was late. So I walked into the next room and it was pilates. Since I haven't learned the art of backing out gracefully (ex: the time I went on a job interview and ended up going door to door selling Domino's coupons), I stayed. And I hated it. There's nothing fun about being face down on a used mat that gets cleansed with a quick swipe from a damp towel.
But I swear I've learned my lesson this time. I'm just not a pilates type of girl. Period. So tomorrow night I'll be back at the gym, but vow to remain vertical the entire time.

I hate pilates too but my sister-in-law loves it so I have a bunch of DVDs that I never use. Then again, your post makes me kind of want to try one of those DVDs again.
Is it possible to like both yoga and pilates? They just have two such differing mindsets that I can't imagine enjoying both but there seem to be so many people that do. Perhaps that is due to the trend factor.
What gym did you join? I am new to it all, but have discovered that I am a Zumba person. I go to the G'town center. Do you? If yes, that would be AWESOME!
I signed up at Prairie Life. They have Zumba classes, too, but I didn't know what they were!
I like Prairie Life, but its so expensive! Zumba is a lot of fun, if you like to dance. I am totally addicted. I could Zumba everyday if I had to! :)
What is Zumba? A studio near my apartment has classes but I'm afraid to go since I lack any degree of coordination. They also have adult hip hop.
Here's the description for Zumba:
This is a latin dance cardio class where you can have fun and learn some great new dance moves while getting in some cardio. Extra fee. See front desk for more information.
