WW[your initial here]D?

All morning the news has been covering the story of Hurricane Ike and the thousands of people packing up their belongings and fleeing their homes. My overactive brain immediately began to think about what three things I would grab before I fled. Coming up with a list was harder than I thought and at the same time it was nice to know most of my stuff is replaceable, except for my family, friends and…

1. My laptop (for pictures, my resume, saved e-mails, etc.)
2. My baby blanket (the one constant item throughout my childhood)
3. My pillow covers (they once belonged to my brother before I inherited them for college; they are now very thin and very soft from so much use)

What three things would you save?

1. My laptop is my life, I'd really like to keep that.
2. My photo album and "crucial files folder" contains all the stuff that defines who I am.
3. I'm going to cheat here and say my wallet because I can't think of a third thing.

1. pictures (physical ones that aren't saved anywhere online)

2. jewelery (just the sentimental pieces from family)

3. passport

Cell phone is a close 4th since I would hope family and friends would be desperately trying to get in touch. It didn't make the top 3 because I'd assume lines would be down and wherever I'd end up would have an available phone.

I've thought about this before, too. Especially when we had a really serious storm recently with tornado warnings all over the place, and I decided to grab a couple things to take into the basement with me.

I would only really *need* 2, and the third would be an additional luxury. I think it is cool, like you say, to realize that none of your stuff really matters, that it's all replaceable. Stuff is just nothing anyway, if we're to believe the physicists and how atoms are mostly empty space with teensy electrons zinging around teensy protons and neutrons.

(1) Laptop -- as it has all my pictures and writing on it.

(2)Rascal -- hard to replace my sweet and spicy little cat who thinks he's a dog

(3) Hmm. I guess I would grab for some of my older photo albums with pictures that are not digital.

That's all, when you come right down to it. Of course, if I could load up a car (ie. cheat at this game), I would throw in the quilts my mom has made for me (since she's still quilting I consider these replaceable, though I would miss them) and the pressed roses Jason gave me that I have framed, and the jewelry my parents gave me for masters graduation that is from Tiffany's, and they were so proud of being able to give me something so fancy and also so proud of me ;), so it's a great memory, and the copy I have of the story I published in the Chicago Tribune Magazine.

Ok, maybe I have more stuff I would miss than I thought.

1) Laptop seems to be the popular #1 item, so I'll say that too.
2) Peanut - my baby (he's a dog)
3) Photo albums and scrapbooks. Everything else I have can be replaced.

1. I have a drawer with hard-to-replace things like passports. I call that one thing. I bring that.

2. A Nalgene bottle with my pet fish, Franklin. He might do just fine in a hurricane flood, but I don't know if he can live in salt water, and I don't think he can pay his gambling debts on his own.

3. I would say my wife, but she's got a list too, and so then I have to bring three MORE things.

Um, I forgot we had a fish. Luckily, Keith's got him.

1. Laptop = wedding pics, friend pics, thesis so it's necessary

2. Our lock box = passports, important papers, important letters - it's supposed to be flame proof though so maybe I can leave it.

3. The puppies should have run out by now since they'd be the first to smell the fire. But if not I'd grab them in one trip so it's not 2 items.

Okay I assumed that the disaster was a fire. If it were a flood or tornado or other scary event, my list would be the same but I'd definitely have to grab the pups and hopefully they would have already put on their life jackets just in case.

This is a tough one, but other than my baby... ;)

1. photo albums
2. everything from my locker, meaning jewelry, passports, and important papers.
3. hmmmm, let's also vote for laptop.

1. My trusty HP or Hewlett-Packard.
2. My wallet.
3. My cell if I could ever remember where I leave it.

A friend and his roommates awoke to a fire in their apartment, and each grabbed their Depeche Mode CD collection before running away from the apartment. To say that they are Depeche Mode fans is a bit of an understatement.
